The printed front hardcover of the portfolio mentions “Librairie G. Baranger Fils, 5 Rue des Saints-Peres, Paris. FIRST EDITION. Edouard Garnier (1840-1903), French artist and curator of the Museum of Ceramics and Collections, made 50 original watercolors that were engraved as chromolithographs by Parisian printer Maison Quantin. Only 283 copies of the folio were produced. Royal Folio. Historical preface, 31 pages of text, also including 4 pages of table of makers' marks and monograms and fifty (50) Chromolithographic Plates by French Lithographer Gillot reproducing 250 watercolor motifs based on the originals, heightened in gold partly by hand or pochoir. As issued, loose in original printed portfolio, (needs a new cloth spine), cotton ties, Old ownership “Cecil Gould, Paris, 1949” written on back of front cover. An impressive work with 250 images of the finest examples of porcelain made at the royal factory of Sèvres, near Versailles. It was a continuation of Vincennes porcelain, founded in the Vincennes and Sèvres factories. Includes a table with marks and monograms of the Sèvres factory painters, decorators and gilders. Age-toning to Title pages and text pages. A great copy with high quality original lithographic plates of marvelous pieces of porcelain. Plate size each 12.75x17.75 inches.This collection of 50 chromolithographic plates includes a useful reference of makers marks and monograms as part of Garnier's historical introduction.
