Notes
Comes with a signed letter from Albert Field stating…This print was signed by DALI for Guiseppe Albaretto in 1974 at the Hotel Meurice in Paris. This print is quite Rare since there are very few other prints hand-signed in black pencil by Dali. Dali was commissioned by the Italian government to produce a series of illustrations for a deluxe edition of The Divine Comedy to celebrate the 700th Anniversary of Dante's birth. Between 1951 and 1960 Dali created a series of 101 watercolors for the book. They are considered to be Dali's best set of designs, capturing the dreamlike, epic quality of Dante's journey. Although the project was dropped in Italy, the French publisher, Joseph Foret, after viewing a group of the watercolors, enthusiastically took it to the well-known French publisher Les Heures Claires. Mr. Estrade, the Artistic Director, worked directly with Dali and the engravers to create the works. The wood engravings for these watercolors were lavishly executed by Jacquets and Tarricos prestigious workshop in Paris. It took three and a half years to create the 3,500 separate wood blocks necessary to transfer Dali's watercolors to wood engravings, some of which have up to 32 colors Less than 300 were signed . No one can be certain of the exact number
