MINISTERE DES TRAVAUX PUBLICS ET DES TRANSPORTS. COMMISSARIAT GENERAL AU TOURISME. PRINTED IN FRANCE. PUBLISHED BY AND FOR THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT. ED 60-81. PH. BRAUN. IMP. BRAUN ET CIE. MULHOUSE-PARIS. COPYRIGHT BY S.P.A.D.E.M. This vintage poster was published in the 1960's to promote travel to the Normandie Deauville area, which is a short train ride from Paris. The artist Kees Van Dongen was a well-known painter who created this image in his painting style. He uses French national colors of red, white, and blue in the image. He was a Dutch painter whose career took off after he exhibited in Paris in 1905 along with early work of Henri Matisse and others. At this time, both of these artists were part of the Fauvist movement, which was characterized by the use of bold, bright colors. This style was considered garish in the early 1900s, but is now considered an influential movement by art historians. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction.
