Paul Augustin Aizpiri was born 1919 in Paris of Basque ancestry. His father, a sculptor, sent him to study at the Ecole Boulle Spécialisée dans l'Incrustation et la Marqueterie however, because of his great love of painting he later joined Ecole des Beux Arts in 1936. In his mid-twenties while Aizpiri's art was gaining in popularity, he was awarded third prize in the Prix La Jeune peinture. Aizpiri was awarded in 1951, le Prix national de la Biennale de Venise. These awards established his fame as one of the great masters of figurative art.
